What Is ALPR?

Automated License Plate Recognition (ALPR) is a computer vision technology that uses specialized cameras and software to identify and read vehicle license plates automatically.

The system captures an image of a passing vehicle, identifies the license plate, converts the plate number into searchable text using optical character recognition (OCR), and stores information such as:

  • License plate number

  • Date and time
